Hello everybody. Just found this site on the web and it seems like everybody knows what they are talking about so here goes. Been the owner of a 316i se for about a month, all going well until a week ago. The car started to "chugg" on idle like it was not firing on all the plugs. Was getting round to getting the plugs and leads done and the oil and filter done at the same time. was driving today and the heater started to play up. It got hot then cold then hot then (you know what i mean) Thought it could be the thermostat but as the gauge was not moving from half i thought it might not be that.
The header is also full to the mark. It goes on. Driving along later and the needle goes off the scale so i stop (thought it was the best thing to do) let it cool down then start off again. After trying to start it i get a cloud of whitish smoke out the back is this water or unburnt fuel? Get home after crawling back at 30mph, taje the oil cap off and its hissing in the engine, eeeek.
I know it is one of a few things that might be to blame. airlock? head gasket? thermostat? or cracked head. i am hoping it is the airlock one as its the cheapest to get done ( and quickest). Lastly the radiator has been on for about a year and i can not remember the fan coming on at any time,is it a viscus coupling or belt driven?
Thanks in advance
