I keep hearing talk from E36 and some E46 drivers who are using traction control to drive thru snowy/slushy weather easier. I just read another thread about A and M mode and I thought traction control was involved with M mode in 2nd and 1st gear. Apparently I was wrong.
So where is it exactly...I checked my manual and couldn't see anything in there about this mysterious Traction Control.
EDIT: Thanks Guys! Its about to snow here....any minute here.....
the green button in front of the shifter, i don't think you have it though, and it comes on automatically when you turn the car on, but the button just alows you to turn it off if you want to do some fun stuff, lol
This is my first car with ASC, and Id say I was very surprised with how many times it kicked in when I drove it after that little snow storm in NY the other day.
I've plently of rearwell drive cars
86 442
89 Supra
87 conquest
96 impala SS
and all of them seemed better in the snow (even the impala) then the E36. (taking note of wheel spin of the 3 cars compared to the ASC+T kicking in on the BMW.
To do list:
Suspension--- researching
UUC System U TDM- 3/05
M50 manifold converstion 3/05
off to the tuning shop for custom software 4/05
Cams/lightened flywheel, throttlebody........ well lets see what happens
there is a good thread on the forum about winter driving ( http://www.bmw-forums.com/forum/inde...owtopic=28049)
, some folks reckon sand bag in the boot, drive a gear higher than normal, and I find when going round a corner, no acceleration until everything is straightened up, had loads of fishtailing recently, taking foot of the gas and it's OK.
yeah, I don't have any ACS on my 96, but does any 318? I didn't think anything before BMWs that came out in mid 96 had ACS...mines a 96 model year car, so it was most likely manufactured in late 95 or very early 96...

yeah that was my understanding, so no delmarco auto and manual has nothing to do with it, did i throw you off with the word "shifter", what else do you want me to call it lol, slush box selection rod <----where the fuck did i come up with that
I thought that ASC was part of the winter package. I don't think it was available before 93 or 94. I have a 1994 325is Manual w/ ASC+T. It has heated seats heated door locks, too.
EDIT: I don't know how you guys do it without ASC+T in the winter. I know my traction control kicks in a LOT. Especially in the snow. Of course, since I have it I just mash the pedal. The only way I got it to fail, was to start a turn, rev to about 4kish, and dump the clutch. That spun it out. Other than that, it typically works before I start to correct a fishtail, or as I just start to correct a fishtail. Of course, turning it off is a lot of fun.

maybe on older models it was part of the cold package, then became standard equipment on newer ones, mine has it, but i don't have the winter package
Hey I have a 96 318IS and it has it. First time it snowed, well a little here in NY, and I took off in a turn, it was nice it corrected the ass of the car when it started to pull out on me. It is fun to turn if off every now and then on those turns you feel the car start to loose grip, I love it. Oh now this whole thing with heated door locks, I'm confused about. My car has heasted seats, and when I touch the outside door handles the lights come on in the inside, does this mean I have heated door locks?
