Oil Reset Light

ghead ok ive read all the posts but i cant seem to get my light to go out after i had the oil changed on my 1999 323is (E36) i followed the instructions using a copper speaker wire a paper clip but still no luck anybody else have trouble doing theyr's?

need all the help i can get.

I've found it to be hit and miss. Usually a few trys..ensuring that you have a good connection at both ends...and it finally works.

it didn't work the first time I did it.

put the wire in, there's a ground pin and a pin you short. They are really close to each other so the paperclip works fine. (bend the leads backwards into a U shape so they fill the little barrel plugs) Turn the ignition to the ON (run) position (not just accessory) and let it sit there for 15 seconds. Turn it off, remove paperclip, and turn it back on.

If it dosn't work, then just live with the lights.... They are only lights, nothing more.

Here's how I did mine - it took me 2 goes too!

Make sure you select the correct pins
Make sure you get the paperclip to connect with the side of the pins - NOT the bottom of the pins

Then two clicks with the key (DONT START IT)

I waited 3 (three) seconds then jumped out and pulled the pin

When I got back in all my lights were reset

bingo bango - all done!

be careful about the timing. 4 seconds is all it takes to reset the oil light.
if you go longer than 10 seconds, you can inadvertently reset your inspection i/ii interval.
