Oil And Inspection Light Reset

I looked through a bunch of DIY to reset the lights. I shorted pin 7 to pin 19, turning the ignition to the acc. position, and then waiting half a minute. But the lights didn't reset. Most of the instruction said it would only take about ten seconds, so I waited a few mintues.

What did I do wrong?

The car in question is a 97 328is.

I think you mentioned what you may have done wrong in your post (accessory is position 1).

With the ignition switch at (position two) and the engine not running, grounding pin seven (7) of the diagnostic connector for approximately three (3) seconds will reset the oil service lights. Grounding pin seven (7) for approximately twelve (12) seconds will do an inspection service reset.

I've to do that one of these days. I change my own oil, and can check all the usual stuff they do with an inspection except the airbag system, but I don't want to pay $100 to get it done.
