Oil in Grilles

My air grilles loked greasy so I took them off and noticed oils inside. Is this coming from the A/C compressor? I dont think it is antifreeze which has a sweet smell. What needs to be done? I rarely use the A/C since its a convertible, second car.

First thing is to find the leak if there is any .Check the A/c compressor if it clicks on. Since you have the grills out, you might as well check the condenser for any traces of oil. That is usually the easiest place to find a leak. If you still cant find it, bring it to a shop for a/c test. Some shops will test the system and shoot it with a dye to check for leaks for $30.00. If it was the coolant leaking, the engine temp would be high and the coolant level low. Good Luck and let us know

Thanks for the response. It feels more like light oil that antifreeze and it only present in the dash vents, not the floor vents. I suspect the oil in the freon leaking because I rarely run the A/c ( 2 or three times per summer). Maybe the seals are leaking. Does that make sense?
