Oil Filter Question - BMW Forum

I own a 94 318i, and my question is that everytime I buy a new oil filter from the auto store, the one they give me doesn't fit my car. I always have to ask for the 97 filter because that one apprently fits my car properly. The one they give me is the short fat filter which they say is suppose to be for my car. The one that fits is the taller and skinnier filter. Which one is correct? and, do you think the previous owners of my car did something to the engine? Also, ive noticed that my 4 banger runs like a 6 cylinder. At speeds of 80-85mph, the rpm is only on 2 1/2. shoudlnt that be atleast over 3 1/2+?

my 6er is at 3.5rpm at 80-85. Do you have an auto possibly? Lets see a pic of your engine bay and we'll tell you what engine u got there..

Has your car had an engine swap?
The Canadian model 318i uses the narrower longer filter.
The BMW dealer should be able to sell you the proper filter for about $5 - $7.
The next time you go there ask one of the service technicians to look at your engine, or filter housing and he should be able to tell you if there is anything different in your car.
