Oil Change tips

Im getting ready to do a oil change on my 97 328iS. Now, the manual is saying that when the oil change is done to reset the service indicator. Do I need to go to the dealer to get this reset or is there a after market tool I can buy from the parts store? Also, what type of oil do you recommend.

you can take it to the stealer if you want to, because they can reset it but you can also purchase a aftermarket tool. as far as oil goes...make sure its synthetic for sure. um bmw calls for castrol. but i would recommend that or royal purple. hell even mobile one is good stuff. but stay away from valvoline and all that garbage. try to get a hold of either a wix, mahle. or mann filter also

Personally, I never reset the oil indicator in my E36. However, here is the low-budget alternative: http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/3-s...set-15428.html
