Depends:

How many miles are on the vehicle; How old is the vehicle and how hard do you drive; How long are you going to keep the vehicle; How did the previous owner keep the maintenance schedule; Was it driven in city or country, long or short trips, etc

A good simple rule is every 5 yrs or 100 k miles

ah right cheers. it's got it's full service history (although i can't find a stamp for these changes). it's done 113000 miles . driven hard and gently. tends to be short journeys (look at the isle of wight on google earth). cool. thanks for that. later people.

If it is an auto and the gearbox fluid wasn't changed around 75000 miles, I hear it is best to not touch it. I recommend that you wait for soem more replies here and maybe do a little more research.

Sometimes the gunk that's in there is what holds it together. You might get by with a new filter and new fluid, but steer clear of a flush.
