Odometer/Trip meter not lighting

In my 1997 328is, the LEDs in my odometer and trip meter are not lighting. I know they are working, because I can see the numbers very faintly. The service remeinder LEDs just below them are working fine.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like the LCD backlight has gone out in it. I had the same problem with the information center in my car.

Thanks for the reply. Was this an easy fix? Something you repaired yourself?

On my car the bulbs were soldiered in the cpu board. I replaced the information center with one from a parts car I had. Took about 15 min to swap. I believe that the gauge cluster will be a little more time consuming to remove. Still a DIY job.

The odometer backlight bulbs in an E36 cluster are easily replaceable as they are mounted in 1/4 turn twist mount bulb holders. An odometer correction tool will do absolutely zero to rectify the problem. Just pull the cluster and replace the bulbs.

Thank you. That sounds like a project I can take on.
