i pulled my instrument panel (1993 325i) in order to replace some burnt out bulbs. i reinstalled the cluster. Everything seems to work...... EXCEPT for the odometer. Do i have to get the odometer reset by the dealer? Does anyone know what they would charge to do this? Is there anyway to DIY "reset" it?
FYI: I pulled the neg battery cable before removing the cluster. No problems with the SRS light or any others after reinstall.
u cant tamper with those cuz it would make ur car seem newer, and therefore fradulently making it sell for more $$$$. there r ways to do it, .....but its easy to spot if its been done, and u go to jail.
i don't want to reset the odometer itself. i just want it to be illuminated!!! sorry if i wasn't clear. the odometer itself is working but you can barely see it. i'm guessing now that some of the bulbs that were replaced are faulty.
i'm fully aware that the odometer can't and shouldn't ever be tampered with!! i was just looking for some guidance with regard to the numbers not showing, or faintly showing on the instrument cluster..
There is a separate device that records your mileage, its not part of your cluster by any means. I got a new cluster for my car, plugged it in and it worked fine displaying the proper mileage and all. You just need to replace some of the bulbs behind the odo. Once you have the cluster out you can easily tell where they are.
