Odd...very Odd....

I have 97 BMW 318I...I had a problem with the idol...which turned out to be a valve that was lose. Well...after the fix, we cleared the codes...Well after the cycles...and the check engine light came back on....and like a week after it came on....It went back off and hasent come on sense? Why would It come one...than go back off....Not complaining but confused...haha..

im guessing they might have not fixed the initial problem , more they just temporaily patched it up, maybe you need a replacement part. have you checked the codes sincee?

Not since than...but...now the idol runs perfect...or like it should anyway...I'm was thinking about checking the codes...but can you pull codes without a check engine light??

There can be codes and no check engine light. If you have or know someone with on OBD II scanner, they can check for you. If you are near an Autozone, they will do it for free. They get freaky sometimes, and come on and go off, don't know why. If everything is working fine, maybe just enjoy.

Dude don't waste your time at autozone, you can get the codes directly from your car. Follow the directions from this link:

does anyone know what I might be doing wrong if I can't get the CEL to come on with this accelerator depression method? The instructions all say to turn the key "on." Is this the first position or the second? In the second, the CEL, battery, ebrake, and oil lights are all locked in, so I assume it is the first, but I just can't get it to work. ghead Any help?

It is the second position. The one where your dash lights appear for a few seconds. I had trouble at first too. What I found is that you have to press the gas pedal 5 times before the ABS light turns off..Which equates to about 2 seconds of time. So I suggest that you press the pedal as fast as you possibly can, making sure to allow the pedal to travel its full range..
