Odd Noise? Won't turn over?

I had a weird problem the other day... I parked in a parking lot and sat there and noticed a weird noise coming frmo under the hood. it was pretty loud (u could definitely hear it all around) and it sounded VERY weird. i'm not even sure how to describe it but it sounded like some kind of "alien gun" that you'd hear in some sort of science fiction movie!!!!! i guess thats the first thing that popped in my head. but neways, i turned the car off and let it sit and when i tried to turn it back on, it wouldn't turn over. it would just make this weird noise and the engine wouldn't even try starting up it seems. Well after about three tries of turning the car back on, it finally started up, but the noise was still there. someone told me it sounds like the "belt" is loose or something... well it kept doing it for that whole day, but when i got home i turned the car off and turned it back on and the noise was gone??? the noise is gone and it will start up smoothly once again.

anyone know what this sounds like? is it something i should have checked out really soon? or was this just a temporary thing..

Just an idea.... I'd make sure you dont have any very very heavy leaks that would fall on a pully as it would make the belt slip off of that pully not allowing it to turn.. thus making it sweek too..... Temp stays the same???.... No check engine light??? Just a belt sound and hard to start......

Sounds like your BMW is mad at you.... mine does that right about once a month... its just like a female... she'll get of it in a few days.

Maybe you flooded your engine. That happened to me before, but i gave the car some gas and it was fixed. BTW the noise was just like a alien gun

How exactly did you manage to flood your car?

Maybe there was an alien in your bonnet?

On second thoughts, get it checked out by a garage.
