OBDII

Hello,

I have 96 328is. Does anyone knows if I have ODBII? How do I find out if I do? Do I look somewhere for certain plug?

Yes, you do. Your car was the OBDII's rookie year. I have the same engine, but converted my car back to OBDI. Well worth the money spent, I highly recomend the investment, if your looking for performance enhancements.

Yes you have it. THe OBDII plug for the code reader is under the driver side dash to the left of the steering wheel. It is covered by a black plastic cover that says OBD in raised letters. You may need a coin to turn the simple lock.

I'm not sure about other contrys.

96 and later = ODBII

unless previously modified (to OBD I) - all US cars 96 and up are required by law to have OBD II (at least when manufactured)..

So Euro cars don't have OBDI or OBDII? OBD = decrease HP for a better environment?

I'm sure they have some kind of OBD. It will vary on what the standars for emmissions for diffrent countrys on how they are programed to meet those standards.

OBD does stand for On Board Diagnostics. I don't think it will actually change the performance at all, it just helps in identifying the problem you have.

In addition to the ease of pinpointing problems, OBDII is stricter on emissions, and lowers the performance of a car. Thats why BMW increased the 1.8 to 1.9 and the 2.5 to 2.8.
