I have a 95 325is, my check engine light is on and I just failed my emissions test. So I decided I would use the peddle stomp trick to find out my fault codes. I followed the link on the pelican parts web site, and to my surprise no fault codes were sent. So I popped my hood and sure enough my car is indeed OBD1 certified, and manufactured in 04/95. So why won’t my car throw codes? I’m turning the key into the on position making sure the engine is off and stomping the gas 5 times in five seconds just like the article says. Please someone tell me why I can’t get my fault codes.
I have the same exact model you have. Ive tried it a couple times and never got it to work. My CEL and Check light both came on right after I bought my car, but for the past month they have not come on once. Yet I still have a rough idle sometimes, Im getting 16mpg, and the car feels like it should accelerate better.
You should be getting way better mileage than that! I get 24 around the city and 29-30 on the highway. The first thing I would do if I were you, is replace my oxygen sensor. A bad oxygen sensor can be responsible for a rough idle, poor mileage, and also will turn on your check engine light.
Yea thats what I think it is but my CEL light hasnt been on in a month. It stopped coming on once I got my rotors shaved and when I was putting them back on the wire for the Anti-Lock brake sensor? was already ripped and it completely broke, so now I have that red circle always showing up but no CEL light.
Can they still pull the codes if the CEL light isnt on? Im sure they could check if the 02 sensor is bad just by looking at it, but I would like to make sure its not something else to.
luckly thats not your abs sensor, it senses the thickness of your brake pad. I'm not sure how having it ripped off would affect your check engine light, since it is what turns on the red circle you speak of, telling you that the brakes need changed (in your case a new sensor).

yeah, i have a 92' 325i, and i just pulled a code on mine cause the check engine light came on because the stupid chip i got does not like my DME. but, it takes precise timing and repeated tries to get it right. make sure you go all the way to the floor until you hit the button behind the gas pedal. (5x) and you can find what the code means if you have a bentley manual.
