Normal Oil Consumption

I have a 318is twin cam and wondering what is normal oil consumption for this car. I've found that im having to replace about half a litre of oil every few thousand kilometres. There is definately no oil leaks and its not blowing any smoke when i accelerate.

According to BMW's manual a small amount of oil consuption is normal.
The amount you mention is just fine.

ya it is normal from the start. and it shouldnt increase must/to none every 20k miles.

I consume about 1L (1 bottle) for every 4000km's. My car has 250,000km's on it so I think the compression is still OK. Winter I don't need to add any oil at all.

If you start to consume more than 1 bottle per oil change interval, I think you probably have a more serious problem. Otherwise, what you're experiencing is fine. Also, driving habbits affect oil comsumption. If you drive at high revs a lot, especially with the 4 cyl, it will burn more oil.
