my A4 was like that, and my buddies 318Ci does too, its probably just a relay or something. If no one else drives the car... it doesnt matter... but be careful if anyone else does!

yea even when in gear, i tried it today, put my car in the middle of the street in my neighborhood, set my foot right no top of the brake and turned it on in first gear with no clutch, and shot straight forward...a little too much than i expected...didnt think it go as far as it did

EDIT: id has an aftermarket alarm, wut kind it is im not sure, my brother got a replacemnt remote from a audi place here, its a viper alarm remote, but the only button that works is the lock button...which locks and unlocks the car...i wonder if maybe it has a remote start and they bypassed the clutch...hmm...anyway i can find out???

If you can start your car in nuetral, then I would say that is VERY normal. I've never heard of a car that you need to have your fpot on the clutch, when starting. Maybe its an African thing though, maybe in America its different.

The only time I've seen a car start in gear with with the clutch up was when the clutch peddle broke in a Ford Scorpio, car was stuck in second gear, had to start it in second gear which involved a lot of jumping forward and then drove it about 5 miles to the mechanics, all in second gear, traffic lights,round-abouts (not sure if the americans have ever seen one, I think ye call them road circles or something like that) and stopping were particularly fun

I can do it on my car to. usually this is the case when a alarm with an autostart is installed on your car. I learned that the hard way with a toyota Celica I owned (had to chase after it in the parking lot)....

i believe the older models didnt have this option, i dont think it was even implimented into cars untill i think 1992 (honda was first i think). my car starts with no clutch.

for those with autostarts .. please please make sure your always in neutral, if you remember that story just about a month ago about the guy who started his car and it went through his garage.

Yes, it is normal. In fact, of all the cars that I have owned, only my 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage required that the clutch be depressed. There is nothing broken or anything of that sort with your car. There simply is no such mechanism in it.

WHat is there to not understand? Do you really have no idea whatsoever what a car will do if it is in gear, motionless, the clutch is engaged, and is being given no gas?

It will jerk forward and stall, just what you would normally expect in such situations.
