I have a 1992 MBW 318i - way over 200.000 miles and runs like a dream.
Except...
All four power windows stopped working. Except the sunroof none of the windows are working, no matter what switches I try. I brought it to a BMW specialist, but they couldn't figure it out.
Is there a hidden fuse somewhere? Does anyone have a tip where to look? The driver side window is all the way down, and I'm worried about parking it anywhere...

Thank you so much!!!

Hi! mhuber, looking at my Bentley it seems you have more than 1 fuse for the power windows...... {fuse 13, @ 5A} {fuse 14, @30A}
johnny,
thanks for you tip, johnny - we looked at them all, put new ones in even they looked just fine... any other idea??
it's so strange!
Did you say you looked at them & replaced them all? I know just looking at them is not good enough, sometimes when they burn out, they don't show an open in the middle of the fuse! So you'll need to check them with a 12v test light. Advanced Auto parts has them with light & buzzer............also after you check the fuses, try pulling all the relays one at a time, so you put them back in the right location! When all the fuses & relays are checked, you can also check for power to the switch by removing one & and unplugging it , then with the ignition in the on position, ground the clip part of the test light & then check for power at the the terminals of the plug.......... IF YOU HAVE POWER THEN YOU KNOW YOUR FUSES ARE GOOD!!! Next you have to remove a door panel & unplug the window motor & check for power there.......
let me know what you find,
johnny
Wow, this tells me it's the fuses, hmmm...... Your 92 318i was equipped with micro switches locacted on the inside of the actual front door locks as shown in this illustration.......maybe try unplugging them
The front door windows incoporate a pinch-protection feature as well as one touch up/down 1994 & later models. RealOEM.COM * BMW E36 318i DOOR LOCK FRONT
johnny,
Got it, it was the automatic cut-out switch (lower right on dash below steering wheel). Apparently only older BMW models have that one...
hello mhuber, my 93' 318i has the same problem. no power to the windows or sunroof .i tried the automatic cut off button in both positions and still no power.all fuses are good. one window is wide open, and yes it is very frustrating.

on your car, the sunroof circuit and power windows circuit are separate. You have 2 "no power" issues there.
For the sunroof, check your comfort relay.
For the window/s, check your ground because it's not likely that components of circuits all go bad at the same time.
Hi< I am a new user. I have a 92 535i and the electric windows don't work, as well as the sunroof. The hand book says "check the electronic circuit breaker" OK, but can anyone tell me where it is, and how do I check it?
