Hi just wondering if anyone could advise me on a noise im getting from the rear of my e36 325ise, it sounds like its coming from the axle or diff, its not very loud, but i can notice it, also, since i changed my oil i seem to lost acceleration in 1st gear, im using 15w40 castrol magnetex., any ideas???
take it into the dealer to have it diagnosed right away. you dont have to get it fixed by the dealer, but at least they can give you a better idea whats going on. Loud noises in the axles or wheels can get really expensive if you dont get that taken care of.
If it's when you're flooring the gas it's most likely the limited slip slipping. It's just the chatter from the plates trying to hook up. Mine does it two, and I've talked to other's who's do it. I'm gonna change the fluid and see if it cleans that up at all.

fluid for what? you see i have the same problem too. i hear that clicking, chattering noise underneath my car, seems like its coming from the cat, but i don't know. i also got my oil changed recently and seems like i lost power and my car doesn't run as smooth. i think the oil the mechanic used was cheesy oil. please help! could it also be that i need to change my spark plugs???
Thanks for help guys, the noise im getting seems to be worse when the car has sat on the drive over night, its gets better during the day, maybe its a lubrication issue in the diff? i will definetly get it looked at though.
If dunno if non 92's do it but could be those goddamn supports in the rear end i already had go out on mine.... Its a noise in lower gears when u shift and you hear a clunk/clicking. Not sure if this is it but do get it diagnosed so you know wtf is going on. It gets expensive back there

Me too- I get a clunk sound when I am just sitting at a stop and put it in gear and then when I shift from 1 to 2...someone told me ..may the hanger bearing..I'm getting it looked at this week.
The noise from the back of my car sounds like, lol, sounds stupid but a "really quiet helicopter" like whoosh whoosh whoosh and get quicker the quicker you go, i also get vibration through the car when driving above 80mph
I have this same loud clunk in the rear of the car when I shift and when I am sitting still and putting the car into gear. If I first take it out of gear and then push on the clutch, let out push back in and then try putting it into first or second it makes a loud clunk that vibrates the car (louder the faster I put it in gear). The soud is deffinitly in the rear and the subframe is definitly in perfect shape. I have a BS in Automotive and I am very bewildered by this. Obviously the drive shaft get a little boost from the left over rotation still occuring in the transmission. It has to be in the drive shaft, the differential, or one or both of the half shafts. I think JAWS325 has this same problem. So what did you find out this week?
Thanks for the followup FitzRoger....I'm just waiting for a set of coil srings and then am having the mechanic find what the CLUNK is........he said could be the hanger bearing....may be we will be lucky and it will only need a change af diff fluid....I'll know next week.
