ghead hey guys...when i took my car in to a dealership the otherday to put my exhaust on i tested to see if i had a lsd...to my disappointment i didnt... oh well. i spun the wheel one way and the other side didnt do anything. just thought id let you 328is drivers know that my 98 doesnt... owell. straight lines dont mean everythihng later
the other side didn't do ANYTHING? If the car was in neutral, then this could mean the driveshaft was turned and the other wheel didn't turn because you DO have an LSD.
When it rains hard, go to an empty, flat, wide parking lot, get moving to where your tach is about 3K so you are near the torque band, turn sharply and STOMP IT to light up the rear tires. If you keep sliding around and are doing mad doughnuts then you have an LSD. If you slide a bit (maybe like a 180..) and then don't slide dramatically at all anymore and it feels like only one wheel is spinning, let off the gas because you have an open diff and you can screw that puppy up easially.
I have an open diff, I know this for sure. I had it on a lift a long time ago when I still didn't know and I spun one wheel when I was in park. The other wheel had like a 45 degree rotation DELAY before it even did anything, but it spun the wrong direction. So if you dont wanna slide around one day, get it on a lift one day and try it again, this time put the car in gear while its on the lift and spin one wheel a full rotation to see what the other wheel does.
LSD's arn't just for stright lines... when you turn hard, the inner wheel has much less grip because of the weight shift, if you apply too much throttle, that wheel will light up and cause the outter wheel to get zero torque, effectively reducing your power output to the ground to zero. An LSD prevents the dumpage of torque to the wheel with the least grip. In any case, this is good.
(L)ucy in the (S)ky with (D)iamonds ... Sorry, I was thinking of something else.

It may have, it would make sense to wouldn't it? I was having a hard time getting around last winter lol.
I do not know, nor do I have the winter package (or sport package ) so I can't tell ya.
i was told...if your car is IN GEAR and you spin one rear tire one direction, and the other one spins the same you have a lsd. if it spins opposite you dont. i have the winter and sport package so i am assuming i do later guys

I've got both the sport package and winter package(heated seats indicate the winter package, right?) so that would indicate I have one, maybe?
There's no way in hell I'd be able to understand that mechanical checking. lol. Isn't there some way we can check using our VINs?
B) haha heated seats im assuming means the winter package. umm i would assume if you checked the vin that you would be able to tell. not 100% sure though. cya
