No Guages, Bad miss around 4500RPMs

So my car was fine, parked it then 2hrs later came out started it and no gauges worked, all the lights worked but gauge functions did not, I wasn't home but not far from it, figured it was the alternator until I got the RPMs up to what I'm guessing is around 4000-45000 and it had a bad miss, checked all fuses and relays, checked wiring to gauges and pulled all plugs could not find anything wrong, talked to a BMW mechanic and they said a coil pack could've shorted the control module has anyone had this problem?? or heard of it?? I really don't wanna buy a control module unless I need to, anyone know how to test the coils individually to see if they are working right? or test the Control Module?? any help is greatly appreciated

I would have a diagnostics run or you could be messing around for ages guessing and buying parts not required.

I stepped in a plate of Pasta the other day - now I have to worry about my Carbonara footprint!
