Newby/First Posting - "95 316i B16 cam position at TDC - pic needed

Hello everyone,
this is my first time posting on this forum, yep l'm a newby here.

My kids 1995 (Aug) E36 316i ( SOHC B16 )Compact had engine problems only firing on two cylinders 1 + 2 with 3 + 4 just moving up and down with no measurable compression - in the back two - l pulled the head and found a 20 mm ( 3/4" ) piece of the head gasket ( metal strip part ) between 3 and 4 was missing and black melted on the edges... Hmmm that kinda works for an reason.
OK ... the problem is, in my haste to locate the problem, l pulled the head with out lining up the timing marks, l now have 1 and 4 at TDC in the block and want to relocate the cam to its correct position.... ( l did follow the video on youtube about pulling the head - one important part missing in that video - stuff a rag down the timing chain gap to stop it falling in and moving a tooth when you pull it back out !!!!! important fact - l thought !!
Can anyone post a pic of the relationship of TDC #1 and the cam position on # 1.
I believe that the lobes should be positioned so that both valves are closed ... is that correct ??

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

David way down under in Australia...
