Newbie With Questions

Ok I am going to view two cars on Sunday. One is a 1993 325 TDS and the other is a 1991 325i SE. The 325 TDS has covered 118k and the 325i SE has covered 113. Both have full service history and the 325i SE has had new suspension and brakes all round aswell as a new clutch but there is a problem with the air con for the climate control doesnt currently work as a new cooling fan is required for the condensor unit.

I was just wondering which car you would go for if you had the choice, and if there are any common problems with 325i SE's at a high mileage! Apparently it has a whine in first gear as well, but the gearbox was overhauled last year and the cause of the whine not considered serious

I think I would prefer an SE over the basic spec and it has full leather interior as well as some M3 bits and pieces, however I also fancy the economy of the TDS.

really depends on what you want. we cant get the diesels stateside, so i've`never driven one. a 2.5 L diesel could be fun with torque, and 120k for either engine is nothing. but if you want performance, gas is a blast. Also, the diesels smoke, especially under full throttle. sounds like the diesel is in better shape tho. if you want fancy, save up a little more and get a better condition gas. i found i needed to be patient until ythe right one came along. have someone check it out before you buy. i did'nt and payed $$$

I would lean towards the SE although you don't say anything about prices. more questions: Are they both the same body style E30? Where are you located? What are the gas prices and such? How much driving are you going to be doing? Is it city, or highway?

They are both the same body style. I'm located in the UK, York to be precise.
I'm not sure about prices as they are both on ebay so i'm just going to give them a look over as they are only down the road. I'll be doing mostly short city trips but a fair bit of motorway driving late at night when it's quiet.
