newbie needs help! already searched, no dice. no spark on cylinder #2

hey everybody. i have a 92 318is. i went out to go to work the other day and it started but was misfiring and barely idling. so i checked the plugs and they were in pretty bad shape so i replaced them. still misfiring. so i checked spark at all my cylinders. no spark at #2. at this point i found a cracked coil. replaced this and still no spark at #2. switched wires around and the wire is good. switched coil inputs around just to make sure that i didn't get a bad coil. the coil works. so there is apparently no signal being sent to the coil. my next that was that the ecu is bad. is there a way to test these? any other thoughts?

i wish it wasn't a 4 cylinder either. but i love the fuel milage for my long drive to work. i just removed the DME and took it apart. no obvious signs of water damage (which i've read is a problem) there are no broken solder joints that i can see.
