Newb- Buying ? 328/325-i/is

I'm looking at some 325/328 cars that have some mileage on them 150-190k. I know about the water pump and water neck issues, but my main curiosity is having a car with that much milage and then adding mods to it. I don't want to go over board, but I want to run full exh., header, chip, intake, intake mani, MAYBE cams and valvetrain improvements. Of course I'll upgrade brakes and suspension. I have had lots of issues with other cars I've had where they get that many miles on em and they just aren't as reliable as they would have been with lower mileage.. I would guess that these cars were not driven hard, but they do have miles... and I'm hard on cars. My best guess is to just save some more and buy one with lower mileage- thoughts? Any of you gotten into a higer mileage car and modded it with success? I'm not sure how strong these 6cyls are.

I dont think modding would do any more harm to the car. A car with that many miles you can expect parts to start going. The M50- M52 engines are awesome, but the usual parts wil soon start goin on ya if you modded or not..PLus you have to factor in how the car has been treated previously. If you can get an insane deal go for it
