Hi everyone

Im a new user to this Forum.

I now own a 318I SE Saloon on a N Plate registered 95. This is my first Beemer as ive come from a long stream of Vauxhall Cavaliers, my last 1 was the 2.0L Sri 8v which had many Mods installed.

Had the 318 since August and its developed a couple of problems which i need to sort out, so if anyone has the answers to i would be greatly appreciated.

1. very little or no heat from the Heaters even with the Air Con switched on and set to max heat, Radiator is topped up and checked for any leaks underneath.
Is the heating system blocked or the Thermostat need replacing ?
Im sure that the Dual Air Con is not at fault because the problem is identical even when not switched on.

2. On the headlamp switch theres No lighting, how easy its it to remove the shrouding to replace the bulb if any ?

regarding your problem(s)

sounds like a blockage or a split hose, or a disconnected hose - that's if you are getting some heat through it

not sure about the headlight switch?

there is heat but very minimal, ie if the blow fan is set to 4 it makes no difference.

The Temp Gauge only reaches the first line bar after the blue area and no thurther. Usually the gauge hit the middle line and stays constant. this has only happened since the end of September.

Any more ideas as to WHY guys

Can you hear the heater working on full blast? If you can and nothing comes out it sounds like the air is being directed away from your vents - prolly a section of the duct has come away

or - I could be wrong - but if your temp guage needle doesnt go up to normal operating temp position then it could be as cheap and simple as a new thermostat - I'm not sure if a faulty therm would affect the actual output of heat

It doesnt sound like an expensive job to me

Went to BM today to have the motor checked out and its the Thermostat which is the problem.
