New clutch options for 318iS
I'm new to BMW's, so far my experience hasn't been too bad. I picked up a 318iS at a good price a few days ago knowing the clutch was slipping a little. If I treat it kindly it feels like it will go for a few more k's yet.
What I didn't know was there are two types of clutch. One that I can get replaced for $900AUD (single plate) and the other at $1800AUD (twin plate) and according to the mechanic I spoke to it is not possible to know until you take the thing out.
I expected $900 odd but at $1800 it turns a good deal to shit.
On the subject of the clutch I don't like the way it operates. The pedal is too heavy, and the flywheel feels huge and keeps the engine revving as you change gears. Not to my liking at all.
What are the pros and cons of each?
Is it possible to find out which it is before taking it out?
If it is the twin plate can I replace it with the single plate version?
