I want to do some performance mods to my otherwise stock '97 328is

saw some people mentioning things like FHM and Euro kits and stage 1 kits...not sure what these are ??
Any other performance parts/mods you guys know of that are not TOO expensive (ie supercharger) that I could install would be of great help to me because I am what you call an upstart BMW enthusiast who is looking to learn how to make his BMW better
