I just got my first BMW. Coming from a Mitsu 3kgt, it is a big change for the good. I love how it drives and the feel of the 5-speed feel. When I bought it, I got only one key and remote. No manual or anything.
*When I try to lock the doors with the remote, it just chirps at me 3 times and that is all.
*For some reason the front door is not locking without the key or maually locking it. All the rest of them lock fine.
*And for some reason the back doors do not open from the outside. They open from the inside fine.
And is there any good cd changers I can put in it? And lets see, I have no idea how to use the center computer.
*When I use ASC, is it normal to have a yellow light in the center of the gages on?
Hey man! About the locking issues, I don't know much about them, but it seems like the remote needs to be reset, I'd look to the place you got it/dealer for help on that one. CD changers, if it's wired for one, you can find OEM ones all over the place online. Don't know how to explain how the computer works, it just cycles through the displays. And the "ASC", it's "DSC" on mine, I believe is always on, and the light comes on when you take it off.
Hope that helps a little, I'm sure more people can fill in where I'm wrong! Welcome!

Hey thanks for the welcome! I figured out what the 3 chirps were. The front hood sensor was not closing. The alarm thought the hood was open. After placing a rubber pad on the hood in place of the missing one, it arms just great.
And oddly enough, the driverside lock started working again after the hood fix.
So now I am just stuck trying to figure out why the back doors are not opening from the outside. And the yellow light, and how to change the licence plate light out. And a manual!!!

Welcome aboard.
What year and model is it? I'd be happy to get you a PDF owners manual.
Edit: Just reread the post heading. I don't have that one, but let me see what I can find.

You can turn the yellow light off by turning the ASC on.
I think its called "active slip control" or some such, it prevents you from spinning out of control when you hit a slippery patch on the road or when you are turning on a tight cornor.
The button should be at the bottom left on your central control column.
Its this button that has no neighbours and is hanging out pretty much by itself. It should say ASC on it.
Rember, when its on the light is off. When its turned off the light comes on.
well if the ASC or the yellow triangular light stays on after you start the car, and doesnt go off, then you may have a bit of a problem
but if it only comes on when you press it, then youre ok.. just press it again and the light goes off and that means that the 'stability' or 'skid' or 'slip' control is working

I tried the child proof lock setting, and the neither of the handles work. In or outside.
I am so glad that you guys told me about ASC. I thought for sure that was Automatic Speed Control. Cruise is on all the time... You are right. I was wondering why it wouldn't skid or scratch.

child safety latch is on ...open back doors look by the latch should be a lever move it that should solve that problem. 2 cents worth [/b][/quote]
Child safety lock would not allow the doors to open from the inside, but the outside should work fine.
