Needs help, car wont start!

I have a BMW Alpina B3 3.0 (the equivalent of a 325) and it won't keep on running for some weird reason. I was away for the long weekend came back was about to do an oil change and boom...the car start and dies...

It actualy starts and then stops just after 2sec to idle...if I press the gaz it sounds like it was running on 3-4 cylinders with nice little explosion noise (like puffs of air coming out) i check the coils all seems ok (0.5 to 0.7 resistance on each) Change the spark plug (maintenance was needed there) and the Valve cover gasket as it was leaking into the sparkplug tubes. It almost sounds like it wasnt getting any gaz in some cylinders...could it be related to the fuel filter or the injectors?

Can you hear the fuel pump start and then stop when you switch the ignition to Position II?
Can you hear the fuel pump when the car is running before the engine stops?
Are you able to check the pressure on the fuel rail, the fuel rail pressure reg may be not holding the right pressure.

Sounds about right brett...
The fuel may have drained back a little, so maybe a small one-way valve/filter in the fuel line might help?
Having said that, there must be some sort of air leak if this has happened !!
