well something broke in my transmission last night...had to get towed home

my car is a 92 325i 5 speed with a production date 3/92...does anyone know if an earlier model/year transmission will work??? i found a tranny but this guy wants $450...Just want to know exactly what transmission out of what cars will work in mine...any input would be deeply appreciatted!

We'll need to know what year BMW the donor tranny is coming from... very important

They all look the same and they all carry the same serial number. AND... upon closer inspection of the page you'll notice the wording "UP To 12/92"

So, upon inspection of these results from http://www.realoem.com I would state that any transmission that comes from an earlier vehicle than yours must be from an e36 build date 10/90 up to 12/92.

Thanks for the reply surge and the info...i dont know the year of the donor tranny because my dad found it at a place that fixes crashed bmw's and sells them...so i have to go down and find out what year the tranny is and how many miles are on it...

^^ LOL... no I didn't know... but... I'm kind of worried that you know but, to each his, I mean, her, I mean... whatever own.

E36 325i -> you're welcome and just a correction to my statement above, a 12/92 build date means you can also get a newer tranny from a 93 325i as well.

Don't forget you'll probably want to put in a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing while the old transmission is being removed and replaced... you may as well since everything will be apart.
