Need Some Taillight Help...

Okay I sold my old Diamond Cut Taillights to someone on ebay. they went for like 41 bucks total or something like that. Anyways the guy that bought them has a 98 M3 (those lights do not belong on a m3 I know and I wouldn't have sold them if he had told me he had a m3). Anyways this is the problem he's having in his own words:

"Well last night when I turned on my lights it said both brake light failure and taillight failure and all the lights stay on my third brake light and the spoiler brake light stays on you hit the brake and nothing, so I went to AutoZone and bought all new bulbs and still the same problem. I really need to know what I can do if not I cannot use the lights.'

anyone have any ideas? I NEVER had this problem when I had them on my 95.

lol I'm not going to fuck the guy over. it's really weird though as these lights WORKED AWESOME for me. never had an issue with them. I wonder if he has the plugs or something switched.

Might be an OBDI vs OBDII problem. I bought a set of oe clears from a guy with 95 M3 (obdI), and they set off codes galore on my 98 328i. I ended up switching back to ambers for a while, before putting on another set of clears.
Folks on this forum suggested the reason for this was the OBDI-v-II. I still have the oe clear tails, figured how could the seller have known...
