Ok, bought this 95 318ti about 4 days ago, everything ran great, then there was a crack in the intake boot right after the maf sensor, the car kept dying on me and had the boot replace and all codes reset. The RPMs also used to hunt but that seems to be better now, although sometimes at idle (around 800RPMs) it almost dies and then comes back up and does this for maybe a minute and then acts fine again....could it be the maf sensor??? Possibly O2 sensor??? No check engine codes that I see although it has flashed on while driving for about 2 seconds and then off again....
I can't find a vacuum leak, I just installed a newer but used MAF and it seems to do alot better. Still had an idle issue and all but dies every once in a while when stopped at a light or something. Changed the plugs and the wires 'looked' ok. Whats weird is that car ran worse with the airbox latches closed, opened the latches and left it sitting on top of the filter and it ran alot better......
Increased air flow is always a good thing for gas mileage and performance, and if it corrects your situation, it's icing on the cake. Toss the air box and get yourself this air filter upgrade injen
icv location is different on the m42 and m44 motors m42 motor is on the write up that SHAHAB323IS posted and icv on the m44 motor is located on the front of the manifold and it is really easy to replace when m42 is pain in the ass
