I have a 96 318i sedan...looking for an intake, short ram or CAI, but something to replace the stock factory air box and its setup. I played around with it today and that box is a mess. I hate the way it basically wraps around radiator. How efficient can that really be ? I want mass air flow that is relatively cool.
Also, I noticed that there are a couple wires that lead into the stock air box. One I assume is the Air Flow meter. If I replace the stock setup, do I still need this meter? Let me know what you think.
Hook me up with some good brands and links. What I was thinking from the start is getting a simple pipe off ebay (Cosmo Racing) and throwing a K&N cone filter on there. I just don't want all the plastic piping with its restrictions anymore. Thanks a lot!

im not trying to take over your post or anything, but i have a quick question since you are talking about 318i and exhaust.
a while back my exhaust was making a flapping noise from the back, then it got worse as time went on.
i took it to the mechanic, he then said there was a hole or crack, so he welded it shut.
now, months and months later, i am starting to hear a slight flapping noise as i excellerate every once in a while. is this normal?

Damn you post stealer!!!!! Just kidding anyway. Thats actually a good question because mine seems to make a weird exhaust sound as well. I wouldn't describe it as a flapping noise, but perhaps a metallic rattle kinda sound. It sounds almost as if there is a loose bolt or nut on the exhaust system. It only gets noticable when the car is accelerating.
Also, still looking for Intake information. I do like the stuff at Bavarian (See link above)

yea, i also get that rattle every once in a while.... sometimes when i accelerate, sometime while its just sittin. but i also have bigger problems to worry about with my car than that right now.
as far as intakes go, yea the bav auto stuff is real good. i actually just faricated one myself. i took bent aluminum tubing a rubber sleeve, couple clamps, and a K&N cone filter....worked nicely and only cost me like $60 er so.
yeah, I saw the big discussion about replacing the drop in or going for a CAI...I kinda would like to have the sound as well which is why I am going for a CAI or short ram. I could get into that whole debate as well, but I think everything known to man was already said. I just figured I'd ask again incase I could get some 318 specific answers...
