Uninsured motorist should cover for that. I have the exact same damage on my left front fender. The quote ran about $1500.

$1500? WTF? Just go to a body shop. They could probably fix it for like $150-$200. A new fender is under $250 and paint shouldnt be that expensive. $1500 is ridiculous.

what is the "Uninsured motorist" thing you are talking about? like when the person who hit you leaves and your insurance fixes the unknown persons damages? if i have to pay myself i'm getting a new fender, but i can't believe that my insurance might possibly not pay for it or cover the damages, especially when i had no control over the situation at all. maybe they won't leave me with the crap end of the stick tho. i'm going to try to talk to them this week and see how helpful they will be with me, but it seems like they usually don't help and i heard that if they do pay for it "my" insurance goes up like "I" was in an accident and it was "my" fault which is completely unacceptable! anyways, i'm gonna call them this week so everyone cross your fingers, wish i could get a tag number from video cameras and prosecute the a-hole who did this and left!

That is why I did not get it done. I haven't had time to go anywhere else. I got an estimate for the paintowrk alone ( I said I would purchase the fender on myown and bring it in to them), and they gave me an estimate of $300. The $1500 was for a new fender, repairing the nose panel, repairing a piece that goes across from side to side under the hood (the thing to which the headlights attach), and paintmatching into the door. A big piece of the labor was for stupid crap like 0.2 hours to remove each grille, and then removal of the doorhandles, etc. The bad thing is that I don't know of any other reputable shops around.

Yes, Kyle, if you get your insurance to repair it under uninsured motorist, I think you are bound to have your insurance go up. Uninsured motorist covers hit-and-runs and incidents that involve an uninsured motorist.

this is what i hear, i can't believe insurance doesn't protect innocent people any better than that. they should atleast look at it to see if it's not your fault and cover you if you have any business with them at all. you shouldn't have to pay extra or be penalized for some idiot hitting you and running off.

anyways, i don't feel like paying to fix it myself cause i planned on fixing it up and selling it so i could get a nicer bimmer, but now i may just sell it as is. no point in putting money into it that won't come back out now i don't guess. its still a good car, but at this point i might as well go ahead and get a nicer one rather than adding hit-and-run damage repair to my list of things to do to it. i've almost lost all hope of having a nice car. people just aren't considerate enough to take responsiblity for things they do. and since i don't have a garage to hide it in it HAS to sit out in parking lots with complete morons.

So sorry it happened to you Kyle. I wish we could prevent it , but since we couldnt, the least thing we can do is just give you some moral support. It is truly unfortunate event man.

yeah, i just really wish it had been something worth replacing and i really wish people would have the decency to take responsiblity for it. thats what really makes me sick about the whole thing. had they have taken responsibility i wouldn't have been mad at all or sicked by it. i mean i wouldn't have been fine with the damage, but i would have been alot cooler about the situation than i am now. ah, just one of those things, i can't shake it off. for one i'm a college student and i'm constantly broke, so i can't really fix this at the moment and probably not this summer either sinc ei have to save for school. just really sucks.

would it be a good time to upgrade to a bodykit since i'll be painting anyways? i'm gonna have the fender replaced with an oem one, gonna cost like $212 at bavauto.

anyone have any suggestions for a bodykit on my car? i like the m-tech body kits, but i'm open to suggestions.

^^ Don't get the fender from bavauto (unless you are really close to them). Even after tax, it is cheaper for most people to get it from their local dealership becase of the shipping costs. I was quoted $80 shipping to AR.

You might try to find a "Ding Doctor" or similar service near you. The one in Connecticut where I live charges $125 to remove dings from a panel and although it's hard to tell from the picture, your dent looks like one they could handle. They do truely amazing work.

Fix it yourself...

Kyle a new replacement fender is about $145 online. Take it to a reputable paint & body shop and give them the color code and year of your car and they will match it exactly and paint it for about $100. Then you get some rubberized undercoat spray, spray the underside of the fender again (for sound proofing and corrosion protection...) and reinstall it yourself in about an hour. The whole thing shouldn't cost you more than $250 tops.

Here's a supplier online for the fender: You want part number "B199" 2-door w/side marker lamp.

Fenders BMW 325is w/sidemarker lamp p/n B199

BMW paint is easy to match. It's not a hard job at all. You're lucky it wasn't the rear quarter panel.
