So I've been looking into getting a m3 motor for quite sometime and I'm about to buy one with all components to do the swap. Total in labor it's going to cost me about 3gs. Now from my stock motor, I'm putting out 190 (give or take a few). The m3 motor from a 97 puts out 240Horses. That's 50 more then what I currently have. If I shell out 1-2gs more I can get a supercharger which will add 90-100 horse to the wheels which to me seems like a better idea. Another issue though, my motor has 150k miles on it but is still pretty strong.
Another idea I had was to do a obd2 to 1 swap using my old motor for parts but I'm not sure if that'll work on a m3? any suggestions?
My ideal thing to do would be to get this m3 motor and then supercharge but lets be realastic, I'm don't make THAT much money to shell out 10gs on power.
If you guys were me, what would you do. The motor will cost 2200, labor to put it in is 600 from my mechanic.

Forget the OBD2 to 1 switch, if you want to do that all you need to do is replace the s52 manifold to a s50/m50 manifold, most of the gains your looking to get out of the switch will come out of that. Its up to you, M3 motor, or Super charger id take the M3 motor and supercharge it later :P but thats me supercharger would be sic to!

Aight man.... my personal opinion on this issue...
Get the M3 motor.... save those extra g's.... and do some upgrades... first off it would be more reliable... not to mention you'd probably have a lot more fun and get a lot more experiance doing it... if you do the work your self.. there is no sub... for having a M3 motor in a non-M3 car... its just sick... in a good way of course...
You also know that a switch of OBD will make it rather hard to sell later in life... switch the motor man... upgrade a little... and you'll have a beast...
see that's the thing though... after the motor I'd have to spend another 2-3gs on stuff lol :P like obviously, I'd shark it and intake it and what not but what else could I do to make the m3 motor faster?
dude build a really strong m3 motor and then if u got money later on put a big a$$ turbo on it or go with an all motor engine and increase the compression and get all possible n/A upgrades withthe m3 engine u could get an extra 200hp N/A

I bet I can find the manifold cheaper... I think I'll pull the trigger on this motor and get it... I had the chance once of bidding on a euro m3 motor that had 321hp and missed it! now I'm kicking myself in the ass because of it... would have cost 4gs
yeah, if you call around to a lot of bmw salvage yards, you'll be able to find a good priced motor. like a local place here had a 328i motor and was selling it for 750 with a core charge from a 325i or higher
