My a/c wont work and its HOT!!

I have a 1995 318i and the a/c is not working. The a/c compressor clutch is not engaging. How many wires are supposed to be connected to the compressor? I was told 2 but my car only has one. Please help its a scorcher in Texas!!

I am not going to be much help for you but.....

Download the BMW service manual that is offered at the begining of this forum, (E36).

Page 640-14, figure 39 shows a picture, (yup, it's pretty poor quality) of a compressor and it seems to show one each wire to the clutch.

Page ELE-129 is the beginning of wiring schematics concerning the A/C system.

I did not spend a lot of time looking for you but it does look like you may have only one wire going to the clutch.

If you wish you may be able to correctly ascertain what you have by further study of the system using this service manual.

Otherwise I can only symphathize, sorry.

I forgot to add that your compressor clutch most likely needs to be replace due to age. GM's AC/Delco products usually last ten years, (almost to the month) and freeze up or shell out. And, of course it always seems to be just as summer is in full swing.

If your 95 is having compressor clutch problems then my 98 is, I'm sure, soon to follow.

Finally figured out what was wrong...the ac compress had no power. Gah I feel like a blond!!
