Musty Odor From A/c After Filter Change...

Help, my car smells like a compost pile! The odor is present when I use the system for the first time of the day. It only happened after I changed the filter. Any ideas what could cause this and a solution?

do you run the fan for a little after you have had the a/c on? When you shut off the a/c, leave the fan run for a bit. There could be concensation inside your vents, and the smell you're probably smelling is mildew.

Or, you could spray lysol into the vents...

I just shut it off. It does sit for a while after shut off and has been a Texas car so the mildew is likely. I was thinking of putting something on the filter to reduce the smell...

I live in oregon, so whenever I'm running my a/c, I shut off the a/c and run the air on full about 5 minutes before I get to wherever I'm going. I had this problem often in my old car, and I found that solved it.

I'll give that a try. I have had something similar happen. Also on a former Texas car.
