city - 23 - 26 mpg (depends if I use AC or not)
Highway - ~30 mpg

divide # of miles traveled by # of gallons filled = true mpg

I have a 92 325i and I average 24.4 w/o AC and 22.6 w/ AC on. That's city and highway.
It depends a lot on how you drive it!
