Alright guys i've given up. i have been searching and reading forums up to 5 years ago on multiple sites. All of my windows including the sun roof do not work. all the fuses are good including the vanity mirror fuse, ive checked the comfort relay which is also good, ive switched on and off the switch next to the steering wheel. i'm afraid the owner before me did something the wrong way and when tried to fix it messed it up in a place uncommon. finally made an appointment with the dealership but any last tips?
there is a harness behind the radio that has a fuse in it if loose it will stop windows and sunroof from working. i had my radio changed out and the same thing happened if the fuse under the hood is good this is the only other thing that would cause all to stop working simultaneously
Sounds like you may have an issue with your comfort relay. This module affects lights, power windows/sunroof, switches, etc. Run a search for it (here or just on Google, "E36 Comfort relay"). I'm pretty sure that is what is wrong with your car.

Hey kevinpotts, i cannot find that fuse that you were describing thats behind the stereo, theres an aftermarket stereo put in when i take it out should i see the fuse easily?
I just had the same problem. I had changed my brake light bulb and then found that none of my windows would work nor my locks. So I looked in fuse box and found that #7 was blown (central locking). So I would replace fuse and windows would work then the fuse would blow about five minutes later. Two days ago I unplugged my trunk actuator and now the windows work fine and so do the locks. I cannot explain how but thats what I did to fix it. I have windows and locks except for the trunk.
yea i figured it out. i think it was #14 fuse, the cigarette lighter fuse. somehow that effected it. it was missing when i got the car so there was a new fuse in there... but somehow when i checked the fuses it wasnt burnt out.... yet i guess it wasnt the right fuse. cause i ended up replacing every fuse even the new ones and when i did that the cigarette light fuse popped so i replaced it and bam, windows worked... like u said dont ask how lol but hey its working so im happy
ohkay so i thought i fixed my windows... but a week later i run into the same problem. i ran through the same scenario but nothing, ALL fuses are good, relay is good etc. wtf is going on can anyone help?
Silly thought did you check the lock all windows switch? (if it has one)Here is a thought does the windows have tint? sometimes aftermarket dealers when they install tint they take the door panels off to install the tint. They might had unplugged the wiring and forgot to plug it back in.
