yeah that would make more power, but i think you made a wrong move getting a chip first, that should be the last thing you do, becuase you can have it programmed to take into consideration all the other mods you have, but i guess you could just have it reprogrammed, yeah seems like you know the usual things to do, but if you were to bore it out to 3.0l i'm sure that would make good power, but would that be as practical as doing intake and exhaust,
Wooooo!!! Wait! I am not as mechanically sounds as alot of the guys on the board but I do know that unless you intend to do all of your engine mods at once, cam shaft, crank shaft, new pistons, new lifters, the list just keeps going, then you shouldn't do it at all. I believe you need really special tools to pull the shafts. There are a couple of old posts about this stuff. I think it was a turbo post, that they went into great detail about building up your engine. I agree with SHAHABM3, look at an intake, exhaust, big bore throttle body, maybe a dinan stage 2 chip. Maybe look at some suspension upgrades or brakes, I don't know what kind of driving you do, but if you are like me you have to get all over the brakes before the corner to keep it on the road. Bigger brakes would mean shorter braking times, or an upgraded suspension would mean faster through the corner and even faster through the exit.
Just my 2 cents. Wait till the major players in the forum get in on this topic they know what they are talking about.

why not get a cold air intake, exhaust, and some pullies if you already have the chip. i think it would be a good idea to do the suspension before you go for too much more power. i find having a great handling car is more fun than a fast car.
Originally posted by Kevin325i@Oct 30 2004, 05:51 AM Just the 3.0L crank gets you a 2.9L. There's a 2.9L stroker kit running around somewhere but I cannot remember.
Getting a set of the 3L cams, an M50 intake manifold and the OBD I conversion will be much more cost effective and yield more power then the 2.9L stroker.
thanks for all the replies... just need to know if the crank a straight fit? do i need the rods and or a rebore?
stuff done to my car -
suspension, eibach lowering springs with bils sport shocks.
brakes, standard ventilated disks with goodridge hoses and EBC pads.
chasis- m-tech roll bars all around with the M3 cab "x" brace.
wheels - 245/40 breyton 17's with Michelin PS2's.
the plans was to upgrade the suspension, handling and brakes then move onto more power.
the next step is to import the BBTB and manifold conversion from this guy in the UK ( alpina 527), CAI and then do a HIOP full exhaust.
I also plan to have the engine out to port and polish it and while it was out i figured i should also drop in a set of cams ( m3 3.0l or hiop ?? ) and then it hit me, that i might as well up the displacemet as bit.. and thus the questions on the crank.
