The E36 has a chip in it and without the code in the chip matching the code in the ignition, the car wont start. Removing this entire system, or modifying it to fit an ignition switch would be difficult, and quite costly if paying someone to do it for you. The cheapest option is to just get a new key.

the early E36 did not have a chip in the key. mine dose not have a chip in key.

Everything made after 01/1994 has the EWS system.

i may be getting a MAF from a 1993 325is, I need to know would the MAF from the 325is work in my 1994 318is?

if memory serves i was thinking the same at one point but i was told it is diffident between a 1.8 4 cyl and the 2.5 6 cyl

yes it would work. 1.8 is a 1.8 1992-up used the same maf unless its OBDII and the 6 cyl maf is different
