Missing Chassis Stiffener?

I changed the oil in my 1995 325i for the first time last weekend. I noted a bar under the transmission bell housing bolted from one side of the car to the other. There are bolts for what looks like another bar just behind the one that is there. The undercoating looks like it may have been there at one time. Are there supposed to be two bars spanning the under the transmission tunnel?

you can get the xbrace that they use on many convertables and stick it there to help out on the chassis crawl. They are pritty cheep compaired to a nice shock tower brace although I dont think they really do as much. They do help protect your transmission from speed bumps and crap, that's an obvious plus, esp when your car is lowered.
