metalic ticking noise - BMW Forum

hi im new to the bmw scene got my first 318 ti compact driving around steady i dont hear any ticking as soon as i hit the throttle it starts. sounds like its coming from the manifold gasket doesnt do it at high revs going down hill with no throttle only when i acceletrate hard. tried it wityh bonnet up but it wont only when underload can anyone help as i dont want to make it any worse.

Possibly it needs a new timing chain tensioner.

could i do this myself or would it have to go to a garage.

To do it yourself, I think you'd need a Bentley (or similar) manual.

ill price one up thanks for your help. heard another tapping noise this morning coming from the side of the inlet manifild near a plastic housing any ideas anyone.

at the side of the throttle body between the inlet and inner wing theres a tapping/ticking noise coming from there

i also have same noise i guees according to the ((explosion diogram)) that marti5 posted above it is an adjuster unit.... What dose ADJUSTER UNIT do?? THANKS!!!

are you getting any feedback on the gas pedal when the ticking happens? it appears this is happening to my 92 325i

Im in a 92 325i auto,,,recently imported... and im getting a noise that sounds like there's something rattling around in my engine...mostly towards the drivers side. I've noticed that shifting is choppy in my tranny in lower speeds/rpms so im changing the sparks plugs/oil/O2 sensor today...any ideas while ive got the hood up and the car in the air??
