I want to do a tranny drain and fill on my 92 325. I think the original fluid used was mercon 3, but I want to know if I can use full synthetic mercon 5 instead.
Fully synthetic trans fluid can only be better, right?

If it's a manual tranny use Redline Full Synthetic ATF (yes this is auto tranny fluid). If it is an auto tranny... I don't know... maybe the same thing?
hey i know Redline in the ideal fluid....but my garage gets a stock of good "Royal Purple" fluids. As long as i stick to a synthetic merc 4, i'm good right?? And royal purple is a good name too right???

I called BMP and ordered the Redline when I changed my tranny fluid. It is THE BEST. Fantastic stuff, but can be very hard to find locally. For instance there is no Redline Dealer in Arkansas that any one knows of. Every shop has to order it and have it shipped.
royal purple from what ive seen gets about as good reviews as redline.. redline is all ive ever used, but its because its sold locally and royal purple is not.
