Magnaflow cats.. HELP W/SMOG

My exhaust smells horrible and I need to do a cali smog test by mid march. It does have a chip in it but Im 90% its fake plus Im getting a UNIchip before I do smog. This chip is fully programable. I can make my car be stock or be tuned anytime I want. Everything else has been maintained, but I will get a new gas cap. Im a student and I cant pay for the $500+ oem cats. I was looking at the magnaflow universal cats part number 94008. Its something like $90 for the part and $100 to weld it in. But Im worried about them not passing smog. The Magnaflow site says they are EPA and OBDII compliant. They also have the honeycomb center. Anyone here know anything about them passing cali smog? If not those any other cheaper than oem cats you know of out there? Thanks.

hmm magnaflow are typically a performance company, so i really wouldnt think that the cats would help with smog, if anything they made them to just barely meet the requirements.. id really do your homework for cats. you could even possibly pick up used ones from a wreck or something, but of course you run the risk of ones that are bad or almost... its hard to say, and to be honest i cant really give any true benificial advice . all i can say is maybe call magnaflow and see what they say, once you call them, call a competitor and ask them what they think, etc

^ Yeah it looks like Im going to end up calling them, Ive had no luck finding people trying to pass smog with them so far. Thanks.

You need to find out if it's even legal to touch the cats. Some state are very strict on this and you won't pass if they see somehitng other than stock on later model cars. In some states you have to have a very good reason to replace cats before a certain mileage on the odometer.

Make sure whatever you do is legal before you do it, so you don't have to do it twice.
