m50 head for sale - BMW Forum

ok so i have a 92 325 is coupe and while driving today my car overheated

unfortinatly i was unable to turn the car off before i damaged the motor

sigh....
so what im asking is if there are any members on here that are selling parts from their m50 motor all that im looking for is the head
i was told by my mechanic that my car over heated today because the clutch fan was not working properly causing it to over heat and that due to the fact that its an aluinum head in the process of over heating it was more then likely cracked or warped i love my car and i cant seam to find any at a reasonable price
so is there anyone on here who could help me out?

first of all u need to get the head off then take it to a machine shop to verify whether it is or isnt cracked and/or warped
most shops dealing with bmws just say fuck and sell u the whole shibang
so be careful who u deal with
make sure if u take the cyl head off that u loosen the head bolts slightly in order from alternating corners and working from the outside in

This is true. If the fan clutch fails then the fan doesnt pull air into the engine anymore. This can, and usually causes overheating which is usually seen in traffic. While travelling on the freeway/highway the car is getting enough air into the engine.

The head is aluminum and is softer then the iron block as it doesnt need to stand up to the high heat and pressure of the engine block. Aluminum is lighter and cheaper. But because of this yes it is prone to warping or cracking if over heated.

My best bet to you, find a BMW recycler. Their are numerous places in the US and some in Canada that specialise in scrapping BMW's or remanufacturing heads. Quick google search should help you out.
