Exclamation M42 running on a few cylinders I think?

To start out, the car is a 92 318is. And from what I think, it's only running on a few cylinders. At first it soundded like the timing was out but then it would sputter and lunge and wouldn't run right at all and sounds like it would only run on a few cylinders. But when you lay on the gas it runs perfect above 3000 rpm's. But that's it. Now I want to note that I have replaced the fuel pump, and fuel filter. Someone has pulled the charcoal canister but the tank is still venting just fine. But I'm wondering if the dme has gone out or if it's something different?
