m42 to m50 won't start, non EWS DME.

Hi there

I had a E36 318is M42b18 1992 and i swapped in a M50b25

i got a complete donor car and swapped the engine with loom and ECU

The ECU is a red label ''413'' Non EWS (so i have been told)

the 325i engine was working before we got it out of our donor

we swapped everthing over to the 318is body. (exept for the key with ignition from the 325i but it is non ews so it shouldnt be a problem i thought?)

but it won't start up the fuel pump, when i turn the ignition switch. (but i tested it, pump works).

and i have no sparks on my plugs.

if somebody can give me a advice where to look, all relays are good. fuses good.

is there maybe a wire u have to change when u go from 318is 92' to 325i 94'?

cant find my problem anywhere.


any advice is welcome !

I had the same problem recently doing the same swap. What I did was buy a new Crank sensor and replaced the white relay next to the Blue one and it worked and started up just fine.


Now the problem I am having is that it bounces the idle between 1200 and 1800. I have changed the TPS I have cleaned the throttle body and the ICV and the MAFS to no avail. i do notice the when I unplug the MAFS it drops the idle to 600 and holds there so i am also in need of some help. Dont mean to thread jack or anything just thought you might be able to use the info too.
