i wana to change my 1992 318is into a M3 (visually) i already bought a cold air intake and a exaust system so i wana work on the outside what diffrences does an M3 have on the outside that are diffrent from a normal 3 series. i already ordered the logos and im gonna get the clear corners instead of the amber ones and eventually the front and rear lips.
front and rear bumpers, sideskirts, mirrors, door trim, rear spoiler, wheels, exhaust. i hope you are not rebadging it as an m3 because that would be really stupid.
PLEASE DONT PUT AN ///M ON YOUR 318!!! that is really starting to get on my nerves. Yea it takes alot to make your car look like an M3. pretty expensive stuff. but there is an M3 trunk lid on ebay right now. They dont come around every day
ok well its not like i have much of an option getting a new car...325i...psh....im only 16. sold my jeep cherokee and an old alfa romero we had just to buy it and i saved up for like 5 years on top of that. soo im fine with the 318 for now. also the reason i got it was because i wanted to tune it. right now im topping out at about 155 on the dallas tollway. ive raced my friend in his focus svt and whopped him and also a civic si. i think my car has major potential. not as a bavarian hotrod but as a nice i4 euro tuner.
fuel shut off is 155 on all bimmers around that year, but i doubt he was goin 155 in a 318, and i also doubt he whooped a focus svt, a civic si i could maybe believe
First of all if you want your car to look like an M3 then you should go out and buy an M3, next ur car cant go that fast and your license should be taken away. Never the less if you want your car to have on the M3 logos you could at least put an M3 engine conversion so that it qualifies as one. If I were you i wouldn't race on the street anymore to impress your friends. I have the fastest car at my school and i know it but i dont put my life in my own hands goin 150 mph to show off and prove that because i know that i cant handle all the possible things that could go wrong. I simply let others ponder about the fact that my car might or might not be the fastest in lot. Its a lot better than wrecking and dying or knowing that your race was the cause of a family's death that you caused by driving in the wrong lane trying to pass a car up. Have fun driving but use common sense, leaving racing for at the track.
exactly my point. that is why i asked him how he went 155.. haha my car doesnt even do that. in order to go past 155 u have to change the chip built into the computer. hahahah..
all of the bmws are capable of hitting 155, even the 318 has enough power to do it, just barely, but enough. i thought only the m3s and higher models had the limiter set at 155 though, and that is on the 2000 and newer models. i am glad i haven't heard anyone say that the aerodynamics of the 318 won't let it hit those speeds because the body of the car is the exact same as the 325 and the 328.
There is one flaw with his argument however, and that is that the 318 is limited electronically at 120. with a chip the limiter would be gone, who knows if he has one or not but i don't think he does, but that is the only way it would happen. Everyone saying that he shouldn't be driving that fast is a hypocrite because we all have hit top speed in our cars at least twice, just hopefully not in city roads. I also however know as a fact that the svt focus would kill the 92 318, the kid must not know how to drive, that just wouldn't be a fair race.
Also don't bash him because he drives a 318, he worked for it and it is a BMW i say congrats. the 318 is still a great car. I will have to say that i am a loyal fan of bashing anyone putting an m3 logo on any other model, especially the 318. i would rather recommend de-badging the car (just remove the 318 on the trunk, see FAQ section). Sorry if i come off as rude but we all have our own opinions, don't let anyone get too much on your nerves. Welcome to the forums by the way.

almost forgot this is in the wrong section. the 1992 318 is an e36 not an e46, mods if you read this move it to the appropriate section.

according to road and track august 96 the 318's top speed for that year was 116mph. and that was at 5455rpm, electronically limited. Now they were only 845rpm from redline in fifth so unless you have way wider gears and a ton more power (to make it possible for your car to still accelerate at those high speeds like it did w/ the short gearing) I dont see any way you're getting anywhere near 155mph.
Also, most people who know what an ///m car is will know enough to realize that your car isnt one and will look at you like you're an idiot. Even moreso when they blow your doors off in a race because you're masquerading around in a car much slower than it claims to be.
