tons of places to get one.. start with ebay and then go to salvage yards. I have a good 325i engine that I'm going to be rebuilding here real soon if you're interested...
i was thinking more along the lines of a doner car so that i can upgrade the cluch (if posible) and the brakes as well .. also im told i would have to change the gear box (one 5-speed for another 5-speed) but i dont understand why they cluch... how much for the engine and how many miles

It won't fit. You will need someone to custom make and relocate all the engine mounting positions. I would just buy a 325 and swap in the M3 motor. It's too much work on the 318 to convert all the parts. I know because I have M3 everything expect the engine. You're looking at spending more than $10,000 on a conversion. You have to get more than just the engine.

Same problem. All the 6 cyl models including M3 have the same engine mounting points. So M3 engine would bolt right into a 325. Nothing fits in the 318. Modifying the engine mount locations isn't too difficult. But you would have to change the tranny, clutch, exhaust, differential, suspension, etc. You're looking at about $10,000. I'd rather spend that $3800 on a supercharger and live with less power. At least I wouldn't have to butcher up my car.

for our cars, you would want to go with a supercharger. it's going to cost about 3k, i think... more power, quicker and safer...
if you could, trade in your car and get a six cylinder bmw... there's more parts for it and more power... the 318 never really caught on... it's all about the straight six...
